Make your Mothers Day or Birthday Special

Mothering Sunday is a special day when you can show your mum or grandma how much they mean to you. You can do this in many ways by giving them flowers, letting them have a lie in, taking them breakfast in bed or even by just being helpful. Why not make them a little present or a card, I think that homemade gifts are always that little bit more special. You could also make these for a birthday as well.

                        Hand Decorated Windowsill Pots

You will need
  • Plastic or Terracotta Plant pots
  • Kitchen Foil
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Decorations: Coloured paper or foil, tissue paper, glitter, cotton wool, old buttons, coloured ribbon or wool, colourful sweet wrappers etc.
To make
Turn the pot upside down, place a large piece of foil over the pot and press down over the pot so that you can see the shape of the pot. Push holes through the foil at the top of the pot to reveal the drainage holes. Turn the pot the right way up and turn the edges of the foil into the pot and press carefully against the sides. Your pot is ready to decorate. Glue on your decorations and leave to dry.

To plant
Here are a few alternatives:
Place a packet of seeds in the pot.
Fill with compost and sow some seeds on the top.
Plant with a spring flowering plant or a herb or some flowering spring bulbs, if you buy these already in pots you can simply put your potted plant straight into your decorated pot or you may need to re-plant them with a bit of compost.

Mothers Day or Birthday Collage Card

You will need
  • Piece of card (white or coloured)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Old Magazines or seed packets
  • Your imagination!
To make
Fold your card in half.
Carefully cut out pictures from old magazines or seed packets (ask for permission first) of your mums favourite things, this could be flowers, fruit, vegetables, food, animals, birds, places (the beach, or woodland), or her favourite things to wear, shoes, hats or jewellery and also include a photograph of you! Arrange and stick them on to the front of the card, you could also stick some inside the card too. Leave to dry. Then write on your special message.
